Add another South Okaangan General Hospital emergency room closure to your diary.

The Interior Health Authority is advising South Okanagan residents that the emergency department at South Okanagan General Hospital will be closed from 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 6 to 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 7 due to lack of physician coverage.

The IHA is advising South Okanagan residents to take note of the following if they require care when the emergency department is closed:

  • In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.
  • Visit the emergency department at Penticton Regional Hospital (550 Carmi Avenue, Penticton).
  • Call HealthLinkBC at 8-1-1 (24 hour service) if you are unsure about your need to go to the emergency department.

Interior Health says it regrets this interruption to the normal emergency department services and apologizes for any inconvenience it may cause.

  1. When is this finger pointing going to stop! Interior Health blames the Physicians and the Doctors blame Interior Health. In the meantime our very lives are at risk. If you have a stroke or heart attack and you are living in Osoyoos or Oliver what are your chances of survival if you have to be taken to Penticton? Not good. Our Paramedics can only do so much. It is time that the two sides sat down in a meaningful and constructive way and worked to solve this dilemma. In the meantime many of us are in jeopardy for no other good reason than “It’s not our fault” oh yes it is!
