Something big is coming to the Music in the Park stage this Friday evening — big enough to all but fill the entire Gyro Park bandshell.
The South Okanagan Big Band is the featured act at this week’s installment of the popular Friday-evening free music event.
The Big Band, based out of Penticton, boasts 17 members playing piano, guitars, drums, saxophones, trombones and trumpets. It currently makes its home at the Martin Street Art and Music Gallery and practices there weekly.
According to director Richard de Jonge, the band “has a reasonably good repertoire of good old dance tunes.”
“What brings us together each week is the joy of playing those old swinging tunes of the 1930’s and 40’s made popular during the Big Band Era, plus some choice diverse tunes that have come along since,” he says.
Music in the Park goes from 6:30 to 8:30 every Friday evening at Gyro Park in downtown Osoyoos. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, sun screen and hats and water bottles.
