Lake society schedules annual meeting

The Osoyoos Lake Water Quality Society (OLWQS) will hold its Annual General Meeting May 25 at the Sonora Community Centre.

The meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., is open to the public.

OLWQS is a non-profit society that has worked for more than 25 years to promote public awareness of issues such as conservation, pollution and lake management.

It tests five regions of the lake for pH, dissolved oxygen, water clarity, specific conductance, temperature and depth.

It also educates the public to be proactive in protecting the lake from invasive species such as Quagga and Zebra mussels as well as from toxic pesticides.

The society networks with all levels of government and other environmental and conservation groups.
