With phase one of an expansion at Penticton Regional Hospital complete, the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation is turning its attention elsewhere.
The SOSMF is inviting residents to assist in raising $280,000 to enhance the South Okanagan General Hospital’s emergency department.
It is hosting a public information session Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Oliver Community Centre to provide information about the upcoming $1.25-million renovation.
What was originally a $970,000 upgrade has been bolstered by the Medical Foundation’s commitment to raise the additional $280,000 for additional equipment and enhancements suggested by hospital staff.
There will be a short video presentation and medical staff will be on hand to explain the improvements. Coffee and snacks will also be provided.
The SOGH project includes a separate Emergency Department entrance for walk-in patients, new waiting and triage areas, a quiet room for families, the relocation of admitting and administration services and other upgrades.
There will also be new exterior directional signage to the Emergency Department.
Construction is scheduled to start soon and be completed by late December. The SOGH Emergency Department will remain open during the renovations.
