Looking to do a little dance? Win a little grub? Get down tonight?
The second installment of the very popular Osoyoos Family Dance goes tonight at Gyro Park. Like always, the fun promises to be a lot of fun for the entire crew.
“We’re going to do some contests that we haven’t done before,” says organizer Clint Hawes.
“We’re going to teach them how to do the marcarena, which half of them know how to do anyway. We’ve got a big limbo stick. We’ve got some nice prizes.”
The street dance is an Osoyoos tradition that goes back some 30 years. Introduce to the community by Frances Sologuk and team at Osoyoos Home Hardware, it is now a labour of love for Clint, who provides handyman services in the South Okanagan.
“It’s giving back to the community — It pays off,” he laughs. “There’s no monetary value in it for me or my company, but I have a whole heck of a lot of fun on that stage. I love it.”
The Osoyoos Family Dance is free. The event starts at 7 p.m. and will wrap up with a last dance around 10.
