Town pondering dedicated conservation fund

Osoyoos residents are invited to attend an open session to discuss a proposed Town conservation fund.

The discussion is scheduled for Nov. 24 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sonora Centre.

The Town is considering establishing the fund to provide consistent funding for initiatives to maintain, protect, repair and/or enhance our diverse and valuable natural environment.

Some potential uses of the fund are stewardship opportunities for conserving and restoring ecologically important areas; addressing threats from invasive species; building interconnected green open spaces and trails for educational, recreational and tourism opportunities; and restoring and protecting riparian areas.

  1. What is the planned/ potential source of money for the fund? (Unfortunately I can’t attend the meeting due to an out of town family commitment). I do agree with the idea, assuming all Osoyoos residents (both town and rural) have a say to where the funds come from and are distributed.

Have your say . . .
