Fair offers options to workers with disabilities

And education for the rest of us

Help for workers with disabilities — and information for potential employers and coworkers — will be available in Oliver today.

Beyond Borders: Diverse Abilities Fair will be held at the Oliver Community Centre (6359 park Drive) between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m..

It is sponsored by the South Okanagan’s Open Door Group and WorkBC.

“There’s going to all kinds of great information,” said Kendi Clearwater, an Employment Advisor and Job Developer with OpenDoor Group. “Everything from support for families to information on self-employment and information on tax credits for people with disabilities.”

The fair is intended for those struggling with workplace barriers to connect with resources and supports, discover paths to return to work and learn about WorkBC services.

The fair is free.

Open Door Group has access to tools and resources to help BC workers with disabilities pursue post-secondary education, access funding or assistive adaptations for their education, gain work experience, job skills and technologies necessary to take on a new work role and create or expand their own business.

Open Door has offices in both Osoyoos (9150 Main Street) and Oliver (291 Fairview Road).
