Special to OsoyoosToday
Things were buzzing at The Art Gallery Osoyoos this afternoon as 29 participating local artisans stopped in to set up their displays for the annual Christmas Artisan Market.
The market will run from November 18 to December 23.
An opening reception will be held from noon to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 18.
According to the curator, Sue Whittaker, the gallery is once again filled with paintings, pottery, quilted goods, homemade candies, jewelry, and the much-loved unique crocheted Christmas ornaments by the returning June Smith.
As Sue described previous Christmas Markets, she shared vivid memories of beautiful snowy days and delicious treats on hand for those who were able to come to the Opening Reception each year.
Attendees may not be greeted with Christmas snow for the market opening reception on Saturday, but they will be greeted with delicious, homemade Christmas goodies and a cup of hot apple cider as they wander past the various displays.
One of the highlights of this market is the gallery’s first-time display of an up and coming potter and graduate of our own secondary school, Sonaiya Cornish. The glowing blues and turquoises of her finely crafted pottery will be one of the first displays to meet your eyes as you enter the gallery.
The gallery is pleased to be able to showcase more of Sonaiya’s work in April 2018.
The beautiful Christmas decor will set the scene from the fresh greenery and red wicker outdoors to the multiple Christmas trees and electric fireplace inside.
Sue’s closing comments were an invitation to the community to come for the experience and stay to enjoy the art.
