Spirit of the Game Society directors are doing what they like to do — put smiles on young faces.

They’ve done so much of it over the last six months, says society chair Mike Campol, that it’s time to focus a little more on fundraising.

A non-profit organization with a volunteer board, the Spirit of the Game Society is structured to deliver 100% of all donations it receives to providing league fees and covering equipment costs for disadvantaged youngsters. It does this by working with generous partners and organizing annual funding events.

Annually, it holds silent auctions and sponsors a Coyotes game. Later this month, the society will be hosting a barbecue at AG Foods in downtown Osoyoos.

“AG (Foods) approached us and asked if we wanted to do a barbecue and we said absolutely,” Mike says of an invitation extended by store manager Derek Morgan.

AG Foods, along with its cousin store, Buy-Low, routinely sets up barbecues and asks local organizations to participate and benefit.

The timing was perfect, said Mike.

“We’ve been spending,” he explained. “We’ve had a lot of interest in the last six months — it’s been really good.

“Now, it’s time to raise funds.”

The AG Foods barbecue is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 24. If you’d like to offer a little of your time and help fry hamburgers or pass out potato chips, please contact Mike at info@sotgsociety.com.
