‘Country-proud’ Rock Creek
celebrates 73rd fall fair

Rock Creek is “proud to be country.” Maybe that’s why the tiny community 30 minutes east of Osoyoos does it so well.

The 73rd annual Rock Creek Fall Fair goes this weekend, celebrating country life in the Boundary region, kicking up its heels, enjoying great food and just having a hoedown of a good time.

Much has changed since the first fair back in 1946, when the fair was a one-day event showcasing agricultural products and bringing the community together for a day of fun.

Now the fair runs two days and spreads across 60 acres. But the fair is still a community event, organized and presented almost entirely by volunteers.

The country atmosphere remains.

This year’s fair includes entertainers Ben Click, Cod Gone Wild, El Groupo Cubano, Flint & Feather, Black Cat Soul, Les Folles Jambettes, Damien Alblas, The Sock Money Band and Laura Close.

They’ll be on stage throughout the two days, with Ben Click wrapping up Saturday evening at 7 p.m. and the Sock Monkey Band the last act on the stage Sunday afternoon at 3:30.

In the arena, you can catch Global FMX freestyle motocross, Gymkhana competition and jackpot barrel racing and obstacle challenge.

You’ll also want to be in the stands for the rooster scramble and goat tying and Saturday evening’s Mower Madness.

On the grounds, the Shooting Star Amusements midway will feature rides, games and lots of midway food. You’ll also want to check out the Okanagan World of Reptiles and converse with Uncle Chris the Clown.

There’s also a mini excavator obstacle course, the ever-popular Prairie Coast Equipment Kiddies Pedal Tractor Pull and the Wild West Rodeo’s mechanical bull — offering greenhorn, cowboy and ambush rides.

Most of all, the fair is about sharing country goodness. There’s plenty of that with the fair’s 4-H show and competitions and exhibits showcasing farm and field produce, plants and flowers, pets, arts, crafts and hobbies and the very best in homemade cooking and preserves.

Gates open at 6:30 each morning at the Rock Creek Fall Fair. The fun continues until 9 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Saturday tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for youth and seniors and just $5 for children six to 12. Sunday tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for youth and seniors and $5 for children six to 12.
