Braedyn Funke stopped 46 shots and brother Connor would get his first KIJHL goal, but it wasn’t enough as the Osoyoos Coyotes opened their 2019-20 season on the road Friday evening in Invermere, falling 3-2 to the host Columbia Valley Rockies.
The Coyotes play in Kimberley this evening.
After Colby Phillips gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead in the first period, Evan Della Paolera scored eight minutes into the second on the powerplay to even things.
The Rockies would score twice more in the third — Jonathan Milligan and Caileb Berge scoring at 4:24 and 5:22 respectively — before Connor Funke scored with just over a minute remaining.
The Coyotes were outshot 49-25. Both clubs were one-for-four on the powerplay.
In other KIJHL games involving Bill Ohlhausen division teams, North Okanagan slipped past Chase 3-2, the Princeton Posse fell 2-1 in Sicamous and the Kelowna Chiefs bested the Steam 5-2 in Summerland.
