If you’re planning to travel west on Hwy. 3 today, you might want to check with DriveBC first.
The highway was closed between Keremeos and Osoyoos for several hours early this morning due to a wildfire 14 km south of Cawston — or 26 km west of Osoyoos.
DriveBC.ca was reporting the road was closed in both directions around 2:30 a.m. this morning and reopened just before 7 a.m.
The BC Wildfire Service believes the fire, on a slope of Richter Mountain, was caused by a lightning strike. It has grown to 60 hectares and is listed as out of control.
The fire brought a squadron of four skimmers to Osoyoos Lake Thursday afternoon.
Boaters on the lake today are asked to watch for the skimmers and give them the space they need to fill up on the lake’s surface.
