A former treasurer of the Oliver Elementary School Parent Advisory Committee is facing a fraud charge following a lengthy police investigation.
Local Mounties say Belinda Yorke is facing a criminal charge of Fraud over $5,000 after Oliver RCMP wrapped up an 18-month investigation into the alleged theft of funds from the PAC.
“Between June 2016, until her resignation in January of 2018, it is being alleged she used her position as treasurer to misappropriate funds from the PAC’s bank account,” explained the RCMP’s James Grandy.
“In January 2018, members of the PAC Executive reported the apparent theft of funds to the Oliver RCMP, who in turn began their extensive year-and-a-half long investigation.”
The local Mounties were assisted in their investigation by the BC Gaming Policy Enforcement Branch.
RCMP forwarded their findings to the BC Prosecution Service. Charges were sworn Aug. 9, but police only made the case public on Wednesday.
Court records show Ms. Yorke’s next scheduled appearance is Oct. 9. She has yet to enter a plea.
