Improved play but Coyotes
still fall to host Nitehawks

For two periods Friday evening, the Osoyoos Coyotes held their own.

But a four-goal outburst by the host Beaver valley Nitehawks in the second proved to be the the young team’s undoing, sending the squad home on a four-hour bus ride with a 4-2 loss.

The Yotes will try to bounce back this evening when they host the Fernie Ghostriders, 3-2 overtime losers in Princeton.

In Fruitvale, Brock Marple scored twice as the young Coyotes (1-6) found a measure of success winning both the first and third periods.

The Nitehawks (7-2) outshot the Coyotes 32-20, but 18 of those shots came in the middle frame, when Beaver Valley scored four times over 10 minutes.

Otherwise, the Yotes outshot the Nitehawks 15-14.

Winning in Fruitvale was a tall order. The Hawks are 4-1 at home this evening and riding a six-game winning streak.

Elsewhere last night, Achille Casali scored with just eight seconds remaining in the five-minute overtime frame to lift Princeton (4-4) over visiting Fernie (5-2-0-1). Kelowna Chiefs scored a 4-2 win Summerland and North Okanagan Knights were 5-2 winners over visiting Creston Valley Thunder Cats.

Game time at the Sun Bowl Arena this evening is 7:35 p.m. This evening’s game is sponsored by FortisBC.
