When it comes to suspense, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts has nothing on the local Osoyoos Ladies Bonspiel.
The event, which wrapped up this afternoon at the Osoyoos International Curling Club, featured two finals decided on final rocks — each needing a close inspection to determine a winner.
The “A” Event was captured by the Marilyn Quintal rink, the foursome having to watch a final stone thrown by Betty Steinbart roll a fraction too far before they could celebrate a 6-5 victory.
“I thought we were going to an extra end because Betty is a very good shotmaker,” said Quintal, who travelled from Onoway, Alberta, to skip her otherwise-Osoyoos rink.
“My (final rock) didn’t come over far enough. It just kind of stopped there.”
Her foursome — Patricia Pearson, Sharlene Fernandes and Kelsi Bisonette — engineered a two-rock steal in the seventh to take the lead into the final end.
The “B” event offered similar drama with skipper Cate Pierlet, along with Tracy Carnochan, Sherry Lin and Anita Becker, winning when a last rock slid a little wide.
The Osoyoos rink of Dawn Walker (skip), Barbara Freese, Darlene Harris and Toni Bousquet took the “C” event.
