For a place known for its “cool treats,” there’s certainly a whole lot of warmth this week.
Caron and Rob Keens at Osoyoos Dairy Queen thought they’d have a little fun as Valentine’s Day approached, setting up a Love Story board on one of the restaurant’s walls.
They invited patrons to share tiny thoughts about love — what it is, what they love, etc — and waited to see how many people would respond.
“That was a week ago,” said Caron Tuesday. “Our board is over-flowing with incredible messages and we’ve still got two days to go.”
The messages on small bits of note paper took the couple by surprise — “We were expecting about five — if any,” said Caron — but also touched them deeply.
“It’s inspiring to read them. There are some whimsical messages, people wrote some really nice things about Osoyoos and the mountains, but there are also some deeper messages and drawings.
“We weren’t sure people would be as transparent as they are.”
The idea, Caron added, was one of those “middle-of-the-night” bolts of blue.
“They always are — just thoughts passing through,” she said. “I sat up and made a mental note about remembering the idea in the morning.
The wall is on display at the back of the restaurant. Pads of note paper are available at each table, with crayons, pencils and pens also available for use.
The rest is up to the patrons to figure out as they enjoy a cool treat or some hot eats.
“Thank you to all who have shared your messages,” said Caron. “They are heart-warming, thought-provoking and inspiring.
