Man reportedly drives utility vehicle into Princeton-area concert crowd

RCMP in Princeton are investigating after a man reportedly hijacked a side-by-side quad and drove it into a crowd at a Princeton music festival early Sunday morning.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, organizers with the Curiosity Music Festival, being held at the Snug Lake Amphitheatre north of Princeton, called 911 and reporting a man had stolen a medical cart and drove it into a crowd.

A Princeton RCMP officer, along with emergency crews, arrived and learned there were four injured patrons, each suffering serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was reportedly taken into custody by security staff after the incident.

An initial investigation suggested the man was being provided with medical care by first aid staff employed by the music festival but began assaulting the attendants and subsequently stole their side-by-side.

The man reportedly drove the side-by-side up toward the main stage, and into the crowd, resulting in injuries to four people.

Charges of robbery and assault with a weapon are being considered against the man, who is in his 20’s.

Alcohol and, or, substance use is believed to be a factor.
