Destination Osoyoos’s Marketing Director is moving on.
But Darlene Richard isn’t planning to leave the Osoyoos community; rather, she’ll be hanging out her own shingle.
Ms Richard will be starting her own consulting business offering marketing, trade show and event coordination services to the South Okanagan community. She also expects to do a little bookkeeping.
Although her departure comes in the middle of the summer season for the community, she said it’s not untimely.
“Most of the marketing efforts and (media) tours are wrapping up and everything is well-organized at Destination Osoyoos,” she said. “There might be another couple of FAM tours in August, possibly one in September.”
Ms Richard will leave Destination Osoyoos in early August.
“Darlene leaving Destination Osoyoos is nothing more than an issue of personal job satisfaction,” said Executive Director Kelly Glazer. “We intend to continue our relationship in a contract-for-service basis in the future.
“We appreciate her decision and will utilize her marketing expertise in the areas she has chosen to focus on within her new contract company.”
Ms Richard joined the Destination Osoyoos team in February, just before now-departed Executive Director Gail Scott left in April. Ms Richard is the last remaining employee from Ms Scott’s tenure.
In May, Ms Glazer was named Executive Director.
Beside working at Destination Osoyoos, Ms Richard has additional tourism marketing and sales experience in the South Okanagan community. She was employed with Bellstar as Marketing Manager, including projects like Spirit Ridge and Desert Canyon.
Destination Osoyoos is a regional tourism development agency. It receives funding from the Town of Osoyoos, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and the Osoyoos Indian Band through the Nk’Mip Resort.
