Have some concerns about crime and safety in the community? Not seeing enough of your local RCMP?

Here’s your chance to resolve both issues.

The RCMP’s Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment (PSOSRD) is spearheading what it calls a Crowd Forum on Public Safety.

The local forums are a lead-up to the detachment’s annual Public Safety Forum in March.

“Officers will be available to present ‘mini-forums’ at local businesses and organizations throughout the South Okanagan,” explained James Grandy, th detachment’s media relations officer.

“Local organizations are encouraged to reach out to the detachment to request an Officer attend their establishment, and present and field questions on topics that are of concern to them.”

The initiative allows for schools, businesses, neighbourhood groups, senior homes and other community organizations to invite a local RCMP member to visit with them and discuss safety and security topics.

“The most common concerns identified by officers attending these ‘mini-forums’ will be presented more in depth at the main forum scheduled for March,” said Cst. Grandy.

Businesses or organizations throughout the South Okanagan wishing to have an officer present at their location, can email their request to penticton.general.enquiries@rcmp-grc.gc.ca .

Additionally, individuals with questions or concerns can also send an email.

“In the coming weeks, officers will be increasing their presence in the downtown core, and as part of this initiative, will be canvassing businesses interested in having their own mini-forums,” said Cst. Grandy.
