Mounties searching for carjacker

South Okanagan RCMP are looking for a carjacker after a driver was forced from a vehicle at gunpoint this afternoon.

RCMP say the driver was flagged down around 3 p.m. on East Side Road, in Penticton, by a man standing by a motorcycle.

The driver pulled over to assist, at which time the man pointed a firearm and told the driver to get out of the vehicle.

The suspect then drove north on East Side Road toward Penticton. The victim was unharmed, and called 911.

RCMP say they immediately began conducting extensive patrols in the Penticton, Okanagan Falls and Summerland areas.

The stolen vehicle is described as a light grey 2017 Toyota Rav 4, with the BC licence plate JA790V.

The suspect is described as a caucasian male, 20 to 30 years of age, approximately 5’7″ tall with dark brown curly hair, a black leather jacket and black jeans.

Numerous RCMP officers, with assistance from the RCMP helicopter and Police Dog Services, are continuing to conduct patrols and investigate.

Should anyone observe this vehicle, RCMP are encouraging them to call 911 immediately and not engage with the suspect.
