The great ideas for neighbourhood events are pouring in, but there’s still just a little time left to get yourself and your homies in on the fun.
A very little bit of time.
The Community Foundation South Okanagan Similkameen is accepting online applications for Neighbourhood Small Grants through close of day today — offering between $50 and $500 for projects that focus on connecting and engaging neighbours.
“Neighbourhood Small Grants support residents like you who want to make our community a better place to live,” the foundation says. “Neighbourhood Small Grants is a unique program that helps build community and strengthening connections right where people live.”
The cash is available for block parties, art shows, craft workshops, community gardens, and stuff as creative as yoga at sunrise or movies under the stars.
Neighbours can welcome newcomers; hold a BBQ or a potluck, picnic or an ice cream social; plan bike and cart parades; a solstice party and hold a beautification project or develop safety plans together.
The funds can also be used to share skills and knowledge, celebrate diversity and uniqueness or create a legacy by growing a pocket garden; build a Lending Library or a Giving Cupboard.
