Winter in Wine Country officially arrives today.
Whether your home wishes everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings, it’s time to celebrate.
The Oliver Osoyoos Wine Association celebrates the changing season — albeit a few weeks early — with a plethora of events beginning with the Oliver Community Light Up and Fireworks this afternoon and evening.
Youngsters can get photos with Santa at Oliver Royal LePage between 3 and 5 p.m. and then get ready for a bonfire and fireworks at the Oliver Community Park at 7.
The fun continues Saturday with Breakfast with Santa and a free children’s matinee showing of Despicable Me 3 at the Oliver Theatre that afternoon.
Saturday evening, the Frank Venables Theatre will be the site of Be Merry — Eat, Drink. The $30 tickets are available at the Oliver Visitor Centre and online at winecapitalofcanada.com.
Your ticket includes four tasting tickets, appitizers and live entertainment. Extra Tasting Tickets available for $1 each. Food will be provided by Terrafina Restaurant.
The annual Festival of Trees also opens Saturday, with opulently decorated trees on display at the Watermark and Nk’Mip cellars in the Osoyoos area and the Frank Venables in Oliver.
There is no admission — a minimum donation of $2 is requested — and everyone is encouraged to visit and vote for their favourite tree. BC Children’s Hospital will issue tax receipts for donations of $25 or more.
Trees will be on display:
- Nk’Mip Cellars Winery – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- Watermark Beach Resort – 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily
- Frank Venables Theatre – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mon – Fri + performance and posted times
