Osoyoos Coast Beach Hotel, other properties ordered evacuated

More Osoyoos properties — including a popular hotel — are facing evacuation orders as Osoyoos Lake continues to rise.

The Town of Osoyoos Thursday evening ordered the evacuation of the Paradise Park RV Resort, located directly east of the Campo Marina Italian Restaurant, and also ordered the evacuation of The Coast Osoyoos Beach Hotel.

Earlier, homes on Harbour Key Drive and Solana Court were ordered evacuated.

“Further evacuations will likely be necessary as the water rises,” said Janette Van Vianen, who is coordinating the emergency response for the Town. “Alerts have been issued to several other properties along the lake.”

Osoyoos Lake reached 916 feet just after 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

The Town is also immediately requiring all residents discontinue using sump pumps to pump water into the town’s sewer system.

“This has been putting an extreme amount of pressure on our lift stations resulting in possible overload and failure,” said Ms. Van Vianen. “The Town will be enforcing this order and will be taking action against any person who is found to be violating this order.”

Meanwhile, the Town is thanking the volunteers who helped fill sandbags at the Hwy. 3 boat trailer park.

The Town will be expanding the sandbag location to the entire boat trailer parking lot area on Friday and making other improvements to provide for improved filling and delivery of bags.
