Last week, OsoyoosToday asked our Osoyoos readers by what name they would like to be known.
Osoyoosites? Osoyians? Osoyogonians?
The jury’s still out but after a week of very unscientific polling, we do have a front-runner.
Almost 40 percent of respondents like the demonym “Osoyans.”
The name — which does easily roll off the tongue — captured 36.7 percent of the 60 votes cast, finishing well ahead of Osoyoosites and Osoyoosians, which captured about 19 percent of the vote each.
The limited pool suggests this thing is a long way from settled.
But, for now, we’ve got a name and OsoyoosToday, for one, is going to start using it.
(We’re also hoping we’ll hear Mayor McKortoff start her Council report October 1 with the preface “My fellow Osoyans . . .”)
Keep your votes coming. As Stefan Dollinger, our UBC linguistics expert said, “The counts are low, so the race is still open, I’d say.
“Once they reach thousands, then we’re talking.”
