South Okanagan General Hospital Emergency Room

It was a sparse crowd that turned up for a health care “rally” Friday afternoon at Gyro Park, but organizer Marilyn Muldoon says she’s not discouraged. The rally was organized to protest a June 16 closing of the South Okanagan general Hospital emergency room.

Iconic Husky Truck Stop and Travel Centre flag

Just in time for Canada’s 150th brithday, a massive 12×6 metre flag atop the Osoyoos Husky truck stop and travel centre was installed. It is subject to strong winds and reportedly pulls away from its pole with heavy gusts.

Town of Osoyoos AGM

The Town celebrated its 34th birthday this week with its annual AGM, a pat-on-the-back for Council, management and staff for everything accomplished over the previous 12 months.

Finally some extended sunshine

After a tepid spring that featured cool temperatures and lots of water, summer brought more seasonal temperatures and lots of sunshine. Highs up to 38C are expected under blue skies through the weekend and into early next week.

The piano is back in the park

3D Moving delivered the Piano in the Park back to Gyro this week. A grand-opening sing-along is scheduled for this afternoon at 2:30 p.m., after which the piano will be made available for public use during daylight hours.

Two RDOS communities say no to composting facility

Both Summerland and Kaleden are opposed to a proposed facility that would take in food scraps delivered from across the RDOS. The big issue: the stench.

Come visit at the Legion

The Osoyoos Legion announced a week of activities leading up to Canada’s 150 celebration July 1. It begins this morning with a pancake breakfast. Other activities are scheduled at the service club’s downtown location all next week.

Sign up for a night tour

Come see Canada’s pocket desert as it passes from day to night. The Osoyoos Desert Centre has its first popular evening tour scheduled for June 29.

One last drag before the summer break

Noisy race cars were back at the Richter Pass Motorplex last Sunday for quick drags on the one-eighth mile strip. Mother Nature didn’t cooperate on Father’s Day.
