If Cactus campin’ isn’t your youngster’s style, perhaps we can interest him or her in something a little more unique — like magic and robots or a whole lot of cool movement.

iLearning Canada Science and Technology Camps are back this summer with two Science & Technology Camps July 29 – August 2.

Camp 1 is for seven- to nine-year-olds and will be a week full of magic, science experiments and robotics! Kids will discover the art of magic and illusions, explore the wonderful world of science and dive into the basics of engineering using the WEDO 2.0 Kits. Participants will get to take home a cool science experiment and a magic trick every day as well!

Camp 2 is for 10- to 14-year-olds and participants will get to plunge into a thrilling educational experience with science experiments and robotics! Participants will explore the mysteries of science, and dive into the basics of engineering. This camp will utilize LEGO’s EV3 Mindstorms Core and Extension kits to build a tank bot. Participants will get to take home a cool science experiment every day as well!

Each camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday and costs $200. There will be breaks throughout the week for games. Participants will need to bring snacks, lunch and water.

Another cool opportunity is 2D Game Design camp for eight- to 11-year-olds. It runs Monday to Friday from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. The cost is $100.

The camp will allow youngsters to take the battle of good vs evil to the next level, using various programming techniques to learn how to design, develop and program your own video game.

Help your kids move with style

If movement is more your youngster’s thing, he or she might enjoy joining Michael Kleyn from Ethos Parkour and learn to move and flow with fast efficient movement through any space!

Youngsters will learn to climb, jump, land, roll, flip, vault and trick with flair and can expect to develop mental and physical strength, dynamic power, speed, balance, agility and confidence.

Through this program, they’ll explore new possibilities while overcoming fear and facing obstacles. Classes are run in a controlled environment with safety pads and mats.

The Sonora Centre is offering two camps Aug. 5 – 9, with five- to eight-year-olds in the gym between 10 a.m. and noon and 9- to 13-year-olds from 1 to 3 p.m.

The cost for the parkour camps are $160. Participants can register in person at the Sonora Centre.
