Osoyoos beaches will get a facelift Wednesday, compliments of volunteers working with the Osoyoos Lake Water Quality Society.
“It’s part of our constitution that we do shoreline clean-up,” said society president Birgit Arnstein. “Because of the flood, we thought this was the appropriate time.”
The volunteers — expected to include two classes of students from Osoyoos Elementary School — will be building on an effort by Town of Osoyoos staff.
“They’ve actually cleaned up a lot of the beaches already,” Ms. Arnstein said of the Town crew. “We’re going to pick up any loose debris that we can find.
“We’ll leave the garbage bags on the side of the road and the Town will pick up.”
The clean-up is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
“We’re going to gather at Gyro Park, so I can distribute bags and gloves and I can tell people where to go — nicely,” she said. “It probably won’t take that long.”
The clean-up comes at a good time. Hot beach-worthy weather is expected for the remainder of the week, with highs of 35 to 37 expected through Monday.
