If you spent Saturday wondering what some of the those hotrods parked at Gyro Park could do on the track, here’s your chance to find out.
The Wine Country Racing Association has scheduled another instalment of drag racing at Richter Pass Motorplex, hot on the heels of the very popular Cactus Jalopies car show.
In fact, the two go hand-in-hand, with cars entered into the Cactus Jalopies event receiving a bit of a break at the gate this morning.
And it’s not just the hot rods the Wine Country Racing Association is inviting.
“If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like, if you’ve thought your car is fast, if you want to have some drag racing fun in the desert, you’re welcome to come race,” said Shana Cachola, WCRA’s ambassador and a race junkie herself.
“New racers are encouraged to come early to register, pass their car through technical inspection and have a chance to chat and get to know the place.”
The gates open at 9 a.m. for anyone so interested. The actual racing — two cars side-by-side down an 1/8-mile track — goes at 11 with elimination rounds starting at 1 p.m.
Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and wear proper footwear. Some seating is available.
Tickets are just $10 for adults and kids 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
RPM is located at Osoyoos Airport, just west of Hwy. 97 on Hwy. 3. Follow the signs from town.
Additional racing dates this season include June 17, Sept. 23 and Oct. 7.
