Yotes fall 4-3 in Kelowna; now prepare for home-opener

Osoyoos Coyotes have almost two weeks to regroup following their first loss of the season last night in Kelowna.

The Yotes fell 4-3 to the host Chiefs in a spirited contest that saw much of the game’s action contained to the first 20 minutes.

The clubs combined for five goals and 71 minutes in penalties even as many of the 315 attending Rutland Arena were getting comfortable in their seats.

Greg Kennedy, Hunter Johnson and Seth Kriese scored for the Coyotes. Myles Mattila,  Juane Naude, Brendan Mongey and Brody Dale scored for Kelowna.

Dale’s game-winning goal came just over three minutes into the second period.

Daniel Paul took the loss for the Coyotes, despite turning away 33 of 37 shots. The Coyotes managed 34 shots on Chiefs goaltender Aris Anagnostopoulos.

In other KIJHL play involving Okanagan division teams, host Princeton topped the 100 Mile House Wranglers 6-2 and Summerland knocked off the Storm in Kamloops 6-2.

The Yotes next play Sept. 22, when they host Kamloops in the club’s Sun Bowl at-home opener.
