Aidan Bar-Lev-Wise scored twice — including an empty-netter — as the Kelowna Chiefs surprised the Osoyoos Coyotes at the Sun Bowl Wednesday evening.
The Chiefs (22-13-1-4), sitting third in the Okanagan division, scored a 3-1 win over the Coyotes before a crowd of about 250.
They’ve been a tear in the New Year, losing just once (to Revelstoke) in the nine games they’ve played. One of those wins came against the Coyotes Jan. 5, a 5-4 overtime effort in Kelowna.
The Yotes (29-10-1-1) get another crack at the Chiefs Saturday evening, when they again host the Kelowna crew at the Sun Bowl. The Chiefs play Summerland Friday evening.
The Coyotes’ lone goal Wednesday came from Colin Bell late in the first period.
The Chiefs’ Joseph McLeod stopped 48 of 49 shots to stymie the Coyotes. Daniel Paul was almost as good, stopping 35 of 37 shots.
The game was tied 1-1 after 20 minutes of play; Kelowna led 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Game time for the rematch Saturday is 7:35 p.m.
