Yotes stop surging Chiefs, one away from division title

The Osoyoos Coyotes are a game away from securing their fourth-straight KIJHL Okanagan-division regular season title.

Colin Bell scored twice as the Osoyoos Coyotes dropped the Kelowna Chiefs 6-3 at Sun Bowl last night to reduce their magic number for at least a tie for the division title to one.

Saturday’s game saw the return of leading scorer Judd Repole, who made his presence immediately felt with an assist on Carter Robinson’s opening goal 13 seconds into the contest.

Jackson Barrett, Carter Shannon and Austin Cleaver also scored for the Coyotes. Repole assisted on Cleaver’s late-game goal.

Cleaver was named a game star, earning three points on his goal and two assists.

The game was tied at 2-2 after 20 minutes of play; the Yotes led 5-3 after two periods.

The vaunted Coyote powerplay was in high form, scoring on three of six opportunities. The Coyotes outshot the Chiefs 56 to 40.

Attendance was set at 310.

The win pushed the Coyotes (30-10-1-1) to a 10-point lead over the Summerland Steam (24-13-1-3) and an 11-point lead over the surging Chiefs (23-14-1-4)

The Yotes could win the title outright with a win in Summerland next Friday evening.
