Another service disruption is scheduled for the South Okanagan General Hospital this weekend.
The Interior Health Authority announced today that unless a local physician steps up to take the shift, the hospital’s emergency room will be closed between 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon and 8 a.m. Monday morning.
“Interior Health regrets this interruption to our normal emergency department services,” the IHA said in a release. “Interior Health has been working closely with our physician group to secure coverage for this time, but so far we have been unsuccessful.”
The release adds that if IHA is “able to secure coverage by end of day, we will inform the public.”
The IHA advises South Okanagan residents to do the following if they require care when the emergency department is closed:
- In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1;
- Visit the emergency department at Penticton Regional Hospital;
- Call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 (24 hour service), if you are unsure about your need to go to the emergency department.
The hospital’s emergency room was last closed June 16.
