MP schedules Town Hall discussion on climate change

MP Richard Cannings toured the CFP Consolidated Fruit Packing Plant in Osoyoos Thursday. He was in the South Okanagan to visit with the local business community and some members of the South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce.

MP Richard Cannings wants to talk some more about climate change.

The Member of Parliament for South Okanagan – West Kootenay has scheduled a town-hall-style meeting for August 15 at the Penticton Library Auditorium.

The climate action discussion is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Penticton event follows a similar session held in Rossland in July. More than 100 people attended.

“The overwhelming consensus at the Rossland town hall meeting was that we must have science-based, enforceable emissions targets to meet the goals we agreed to in Paris,” Mr. Cannings wrote later that month.

“We must stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry and start providing meaningful incentives for the shift to renewable energy.  We need to ensure that new trade agreements support climate action, not hinder it.”
