Osoyoos Secondary Lady Rattlers accomplished something Saturday they haven’t done all season — they beat Keremeos Secondary on the soccer pitch.
The win came at the best of times — the championship game of the Osoyoos-hosted BC Rural School Invitational Tournament — and not without a bit of style.
The match went to penalty kicks after the two sides slugged it out to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time. Taylor Pendergraft stepped into the box for the Rattlers and successfully turned away three of five kicks. Osoyoos scored on three of their four kicks.
Keremeos scored in the opening frame. Sami Lunenberg scored for the Rattlers in the second half.
Keremeos had won two previous meetings between the two squads.
The Lady Rattlers defeated both Hope (5-1) and Mt. Sentinel (5-0) yesterday to advance to an 11 a.m. semi-final match this morning against Fort St. James. Keremeos knocked off Pemberton.
Barring another victory in court later this spring or summer, the win might be the last for the OSS Rattlers on Osoyoos turf.
The school is scheduled to merge with South Okanagan Secondary next September.
