Osoyoos Coyotes make a triumphant return to Sun Bowl Arena this evening, their home-opener coming on the heels of an impressive come-from-behind win in Summerland.
Carter Shannon scored three goals — including the winner two minutes into the second overtime frame — as the Yotes knotched a 5-4 win over the Steam in Summerland.
The meeting was the first between the two clubs since last spring when the Steam unceremoniously dumped the highly touted Coyotes from the KIJHL playoffs.
For about 40 minutes, it appeared Summerland would continue its mastery of its Osoyoos foe.
The Steam scored three unanswered goals and held a 3-0 lead midway through the second period before the Coyotes finally got on the board, Shannon scoring from Carter Robinson and Kyle Rosolowski.
Summerland’s John Pilon restored the three-goal lead with a marker just over two minutes later, setting up the Coyote comeback.
Daniel Stone started it with just over four minutes left in the middle frame, scoring on the powerplay from Judd Repole and Shannon.
Austin Cleaver brought Osoyos to within one with another powerplay goal less than two minutes into the third period. Shannon tied the game with his second goal less than five minutes later, the Coyotes again scoring on the powerplay.
The two teams then skated through the remainder of the third without scoring and added a scoreless overtime frame as well.
The Coyotes outshot the Steam 37-24. The teams combined for an impressive 76 minutes in penalties.
The Yotes are now 4-0 on the young season, all four of their wins coming on the road in ever-increasingly challenging matches.
The club celebrates its home-opener tonight against the Kamloops Storm, the team they dropped 3-1 in Kamloops September 16.
Game time this evening is 7:35.
