Rise and shine, Osoyoos — It’s Wednesday, March 9

ODN_rise_and_shine_page_headerRise and shine, Osoyoos, it’s Wednesday, March 9. Here’s what you need to know as your day gets underway.

  • Osoyoos weather: Cloudy with sunny breaks this morning and light rain this afternoon. We can expect a high of 9.
  • About 750 Osoyoos residents still had something to say last night about an SD53 plan to close one of the community’s schools. They again pleaded with the School Board to vote down a recommendation to move secondary students to Oliver.
  • Osoyoos Coyotes are up 2-1 in their division final series against Summerland. A 7-4 win last night in Summerland had a bit of the dramatic, including a third-period Summerland comeback.
  • OSS Rattlers will take a sixth seed into the 16-team 1A Boys Basketball Championships, which tip off today in Langley. The Rattlers open against 11th-seeded B.C. Christian Academy, based in Port Coquitlam, in a 5:15 p.m. start.
  • Elevated lead levels in the B.C. Legislature water: that explains so much, doesn’t it?
  • It didn’t save him, but it did help find his body. A personal location device leads B.C. rescuers to a lost snowmobiler.
  • Happy International Women’s Day: At least one of Canada’s bank notes will have a feminine face in 2018, the federal government announced yesterday. Do you have a favourite for who that might be?
  • A Canadian who survived serious injuries in the Boston Marathon bombing in April 2013 was killed in a car accident in Dubai over the weekend.
  • Don’t count out Bernie Sanders yet; the upstart Democrat scored a stunning win in Michigan last night.
  • And finally, this is worth another look: watch this fearless weiner dog jump in for a swim with a dolphin.

Have a great day, Osoyoos.
