The jury decided that Johnny Depp was defamed by his ex-wife Amber Heard, who enacted a five-week trial in Virginia.
Heard, who was accused of slander, had to pay $15 million in damages to Disney star Depp.
Latest updates regarding the Payment
On Wednesday, the host of Good Morning America asked Johnny’s lawyer whether or not Johnny would agree to a settlement in which Amber only appeals against him and forgoes monetary compensation. The lawyer hinted that this may happen.
Benjamin said on the show that,
When Heard revealed herself as a victim of domestic and sexual abuse, he was no longer cast in his Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts films. The win is remarkable for him, since the actor lost roles to her 2018 Washington Post op-ed.
Despite not mentioning Depp by name, Heard actually argued that it defamed him and cost him lucrative deals. He also said Heard was the abusive one.
It would be hard to say many people didn’t know of Amber Heard before she was married to Johnny Depp.
Some may only have known her when she and her husband, Depp, got in trouble with Australian Border Security Forces after smuggling a pet along with them.
From her ex-husband to her acting career, she is relatively unknown compared to him. She has received more recognition for her courtroom appearances rather than acting.
Though they had tried to maintain some semblance of anonymity, their continued litigation brought the spotlight on them rather unfriendly, as well as bringing public scrutiny on their careers, marriage and divorce, charitable contributions (or lack thereof), and bank balances.
Amber Heard Net Worth
Heard’s exact net worth is not clear, but other sources report it to be US$8 million in total but we do believe that her networth would be around $3 million.
Heard made US$10 million in the span of a few years, His reported net worth, equalling $150 million, is a huge contrast from her own.
But unlike Depp’s well-established career, Heard’s had only just hit its first major success when the courtroom battles began. Heard made her break with her breakout role in “The Girl with All the Gifts”.
She was a model in New York before moving to Los Angeles and appeared in Jack & Bobby, The Mountain and The OC. She is known as one of the female actors who began her acting career during the transition between MTV and reality television.
With 51 acting credits, her career was short but not always fruitful. She made her first film appearance in Friday Night Lights in 2004.
Her first leading movie was the 2006 slasher film All the Boys Love Mandy Lane – a flop. She soon enjoyed more attention for her role in Pineapple Express, played by Seth Rogan as his much-younger love interest, which led to a brief appearance in Zombieland. But her most notable roles were from her supporting role in The Rum Diary, where she met Johnny Depp.
With a massive crossover success, Heard made US$1 million for the first film and received US$2 million for the sequel. With so much attention in the spotlight, it’s amazing just how many people want a talented actress like Heard to play a strong woman again.
Heard has been in global campaigns with Guess, which is worth over US$1.625 million along with work with the Cannes Film Festival and Harper’s Bazaar.
Comparing the networth of Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp has been a film actor for nearly four decades, starting his career at the age of 21 when he met his future wife. In that time, he has amassed an unbelievable amount of money, real stakes, businesses around the world and vintage cars.
Though he blew much of his exorbitant wealth in 2016, Depp is still worth an eye-watering US$150 million, compared to Heard’s US$2.5 million.
Despite receiving a US$7 million settlement after her initial allegations of Depp’s abuse in 2016, she pledged to donate the funds to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union. It has since come out that she only donated a small portion of the funds.
However, despite their divorce being finalized in 2017, Depp retained all of his international real estate holdings – including the private island where they wed – and vintage car collection. Heard obtained the two terriers, a horse, and two vehicles.
After her divorce, Heard applied for spousal support, asking for US$50,000 per month to cover various expenses, including US$10,000 for rent, US$2000 for eating out, and US$10,000 for pet supplies and legal costs.
At the time, she said she only earned US$27,000 from film royalties, and proved her savings account only held US$25,000. She later withdrew the claims.
Even in comparison with his previous exes, Kate Moss and the original muse of Winona Ryder (who has a net worth of US$18 million), Heard doesn’t have much.
So the answer of whether she will be able to pay $15 million to court is a Big No, thats what even her advocate has told to the judge, lets wait and see how will the case moves on regarding her payment.
