Costa Rica and Canada will collaborate to develop hydrogen fuel

The Costa Rican Hydrogen Association and its Canadian representative signed a memorandum of understanding this month to enhance cooperation in the development of zero-emission technologies.

One of the top ten hydrogen producers in the world, Canada has more than 100 leading hydrogen companies, employing more than 2,000 people and annual revenues of over $ 200 million.

Javier Bonilla Herrera, president of the Costa Rica Association (AH2), said the deal represents a great opportunity for Costa Rica and acknowledged that they are excited to share knowledge with Canada.

Costa Rica is emerging as a key player in the global hydrogen value chain, he said.

Mark Kirby, President of the Canadian Association, said the cooperation would help both countries achieve their climate goals while promoting international trade and distribution chains.

Costa Rica’s Ambassador to Canada Mauricio Artis said the agreement was a fundamental element of future efforts for cooperation between the two countries’ public and private sectors.

Costa Rica launched the National Decompensation Plan in 2019 with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through modernization of public transport, research on alternative fuels and forest mass expansion.
