Last week, aggressive moves on the last lap were a major topic of conversation afterwards Ross Chastain He got one late at the Circuit of the Americas and won his first NASCAR Cup Series Element. Less than a week later, during the Xfinity Series race in Richmond, fellow Joe Gibbs Racing teammates John Hunter Nemechek and Ty Gibbs found themselves in a position to win on the last lap.
The 19-year-old made a move on one of the final turns, sending Nemechek up the track, before running to the checkered flag. The 24-year-old was not happy and let this be known in his interview. However, less than 24 hours later, Fox’s Larry McReynolds awkwardly noted that Nimchik’s frustration was hypocrisy of the first order.

It was a foregone conclusion late in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday. Joe Gibbs Racing You will win. It was just a matter of which driver would do it – Ty Gibbs, who has already won twice this year, or John Hunter Nemeczyk, who had a weekend in the truck series and was working in car #18.
Nemechek led 135 laps in the race. Gibbs led the way with 114. The veteran driver started the most important lap with 54 on his bumper. Halfway around the track, the two cars, along with Gibbs, clashed inside. Heading into Turn 3, Joe’s grandson led the way, sending Nemechek away.
Gibbs took a final and early turn to take the win, his third this season and seventh of his young career.
Ty Gibbs admits that John Hunter Nimchik owes him one
Moments after the race and its festive exhaustion, Fox’s Jimmy Little visited Gibbs and asked about the move at the end.
“I definitely deserve to come back,” Gibbs admitted. “You know we’re racing for wins, and it’s hard to get them, so I had to win them. We were fighting really hard all day. Just couldn’t take the bottom. John Hunter was a little bit faster and we had a great race. Good for Toyota to finish 1-2. Just I got in there too deep and had to push it out of the way. We are a short track race.”
Nimchik appeared on the broadcast watching Gibbs’ interview. Reagan Smith met him a few minutes later and asked for his reaction to his colleague’s remarks.
“He and I will settle it on Monday. I just passed by,” said a clearly frustrated Nemechek. He didn’t even try to make a corner there. Contestants never forget, that’s for sure.”

during the NASCAR Race Day Race Show Before Sunday’s Cup Series race, the committee reconsidered last week’s move by Ross Chastain. Larry McReynolds said he had no problem with the Trackhouse Racing driver’s move and then brought up the end of the Xfinity Series race the day before.
“Go back to yesterday. I have no problem with what Ty Gibbs did,” said McReynolds. “And neither should John Hunter Nemecic. I’m back at Mosport a few years ago with Cole Caster in this truck race.”
The broadcast then showed the 2016 race from Canadian Tire Motorsport Park when he followed Nemechek Custer, driving to his back in the second-to-last turn, before sliding into the side of Truck 00 and riding off the track onto the road. Grass and fence for yards all the way across the finish line.
“You’re talking about driving through someone. Are you kidding me?” McReynolds said. “What is good for the goose is good for the cows.”
