While many see Listing their game on Sony’s PlayStation Plus As a real blessing, others feel less. In fact, Oddworld Inhabitants’ Lorne Lanning revealed that getting Oddworld: Soulstorm on PS Plus was “disastrous” for the team.
Chat Xbox expansion cardLanning said his team initially thought they would sell roughly 50,000 units of Oddworld: Soulstorm, and certainly not more than 100,000. The studio was also looking for some financial help to keep the game alive, and as such, when Sony approached the team offering an undisclosed amount of money to put their game on PS Plus for its release month, Lanning jumped at the opportunity.
However, the game’s release has been delayed by three months due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic. With the subsequent release of the game, Lanning said, more people than previously expected will have access to the PlayStation 5.
As a result, Lanning revealed that Oddworld: Soulstrom has been downloaded nearly 4 million times through PS Plus, greatly exceeding teams’ expectations. “For us, it was devastating,” Lanning claimed.
After launching on PC and PlayStation consoles in April 2021, Oddworld: Soulstorm launched on Xbox in November. However, Lanning did not reveal how the game’s sales compare on Xbox.
