Prince Charles and Camila are due to visit Canada in May

Following the tour cycle to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Clarence House announced on Monday morning that the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will be arriving in Canada in May.

Specific dates have not yet been announced.But during their three-day tour they will travel to Newfoundland and Labrador, Ottawa and the Northwest Territories.

The Office of the Governor-General issued a statement this morning: “The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have accepted the Government of Canada’s invitation for a three – day state visit in May … showing the evolution of our country, our diversity and inclusive community, and the opposition of indigenous communities.”

Interestingly, tourism is very limited, although Canadian provinces and territories have recently lifted public health restrictions.

The Canadian Heritage Department will release a detailed Royal Voyage 2022 itinerary in the coming weeks.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement, “This is an opportunity for their dignitaries to participate in various initiatives in honor of the Queen’s service and commitment to our country, and to meet with Canadians who are inspiring change in our communities.”

The Trudeau government has not yet announced any other definite plans other than lighting Canada’s Platinum Festival on federal buildings on June 2, noting that they will be announced later in its Access Day report on February 6. The federal government has not announced the Platinum Jubilee Medal; However, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Alberta have announced the provincial medals.

Prince Charles has visited Canada twelve times for official tours, making his first visit in 1970 with his parents and sister. His last official visit was in 2017, when he and Camilla paid a three-day visit to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. He has made seven personal visits.
