The San Jose Police Department said the victim was taken Monday to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

San Jose police said, “The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.”

“Our office has not yet received the police report for review, and therefore has no information on Mr. Velasquez. No charges have been filed at this time,” said Delaney Murray of the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.

The prison entry indicated that no bail had been set, and that a court session was possible on Wednesday.

Velasquez, 39, competes for the UFC In the heavyweight category and became a two-time champion. His last fight was in 2019.
