Horizon: Forbidden West was comfortably the #1 game on the UK boxed charts, according to GfK’s latest numbers.
This game is the second biggest launch for PS5 to date, after the popular launch game Spider-Man: Miles Morales and right before FIFA 22. Like Spider-Man, the new Horizon has been released on both PS4 and PS5. 68% of packaged sales were on PS5 and the rest on the older PlayStation.
Forbidden West’s launch sales are down 35% compared to its predecessor: Horizon: Zero Dawn for 2017. However, this data does not affect digital sales, and the download market has accelerated significantly in the past five years. Digital download data will be released later in the week.
Given the lack of PS5 consoles available, we might expect Horizon to rise and fall in the charts as more hardware becomes available.
This means that Pokemon Legends: Arceus is down to #2 (sales down 52% on a weekly basis). The Nintendo Switch has been the #1 selling game for three weeks in a row and remains the fastest-selling game of the year.
The release of Horizon coincided with more PS5 consoles arriving in stores, sending other PS5 games up the charts. Spider-Man: Miles Morales climbed 15 spots to #12 after increasing sales by 90% week after week. Meanwhile, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart enters the charts at number 20.
Right behind Ratchet & Clank is Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection, which jumped back to the charts at #21 following the release of the Nintendo Switch version of the bundle.
Elsewhere, the new Cyberpunk 2077 update means the game is now optimized for PS5, Xbox Series X, and S. As a result, the CD Projekt title is up 271% in sales week after week and returns to the charts at No.23.
The other new game in the charts is King of Fighters XV at number 30. The SNK title sold best on PS5, accounting for 53% of sales, with 25% on PS4 and 23% on Xbox.
