CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Bengals are beginning the current phase of off-season training with a knowledge they didn’t have last spring.
This time around a year ago, the last-place team in North Asia was trying to get back into the play-off competition. By the end of the season, the Bengals were a distance or two away from winning their first Super Bowl.
In his first press conference since Cincinnati’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI, Bengals quarterback Joe Borough He said the postseason would give them the confidence to go on another tour.
“With the start of last year, we knew we were good, but I think going into the playoffs, we knew we could win but we weren’t really sure what it would take,” Borough said on Tuesday. “We just went there and played hard and as a team, and it worked out.
“Now, we know what it takes and we have that experience in our back pockets to move forward.”
This week saw the start of the second phase of Volunteer Drills, a three-week period that allows coaches to work with players during field drills. It’s the first time the team has worked together since the Bengals’ best season in three decades ended with a 23-20 loss to the Rams.
Prior to the last season, Cincinnati had not reached the playoffs since 2015 and was in the midst of the NFL’s longest drought without a playoff win, which extended into January 1991.
Burrow said he rewatched the Super Bowl and handled the loss like any other he’s suffered throughout his football career. Cincinnati wide reception Ja’Marr Chasewho was named the Associated Press’s New Player of the Year last season, did not reconsider the dramatic finale but agreed that the post-season experience gave the team confidence in 2022.
“Now we just have to expect that we are one of the best teams in the league,” Chase said on Tuesday. “We must maintain that expectation and move with it.”
Last season saw the Bengals’ third Conference Championship, matching feats of the franchise from the 1981 and 1988 seasons. Historically, Cincinnati has not been able to maintain post-season success. The Bengal team has not won play-off matches in successive seasons.
After a season in which the Cincinnati upended many negative trends, the Bengals will have yet another sign to smash to remain a contender in the Super Bowl.
“We’ve seen it, we’ve done it,” wide receiver from the Bengals T. Higgins She said. “And we know what it takes to get back to this point. This is our standard now. This is our standard for this team. There is no need to look back.”
