Carlsberg
Carlsberg, Ukraine’s second-largest brewer with a 31% market share, has halted operations at two Ukrainian breweries in Kiev and the southern city of Zaporizhzhya.
A company spokesman told Reuters it had taken “several initiatives in Ukraine with the aim of taking care of the safety of our employees in the country,” including asking them to stay at home.
Carlsberg also owns a third brewery in Ukraine in the western city of Lviv.
Coca Cola
Coca-Cola HBC, the company’s bottling and packaging company, has closed its factory in Ukraine and told employees in the country to stay home.
“We will keep this under review for the coming days,” a company spokesman told Reuters.
Mondelez
Mondelez International CEO Dirk van de Putt told Reuters late on Wednesday that Mondelez International would close its factories in Ukraine if tensions between the country and Russia escalate and become “extremely dangerous”.
“To make sure these people are safe…that is the number one concern,” Van de Putt said. “We have big business in both countries. If that means we have to shut down factories because it’s very dangerous, we will.”
In Russia and Ukraine, the countries of Mondelez are emerging markets in Europe, and the company manufactures local brands such as Jubilee biscuits and Corona chocolate. It also sells biscuits including Oreo biscuits, chocolates such as Milka, chewing gum and candy in the area.
Nestle
A Nestlé spokesperson said it had “temporarily closed” its factories, warehouses and supply chain in Ukraine and advised its employees to stay home.
“At this time, all of our colleagues are safe and we remain in constant contact with them and do our best to prioritize their safety, adapting our plans in line with the changing environment,” the company said. “We remain committed to continuing to serve the local population and have contingency plans in place to ensure that we can re-supply our products as soon as safe conditions permit.”
