Garrett FriedleyPreviously as a build engineer for Canadian mobile developer Kabam, he has now joined PlayStation as a senior build engineer.
In celebration of his new job, Fredley posted a message on Twitter and LinkedIn expressing his happiness at joining the new “Conservation” team.
“Today is my first day as a senior building engineer at PlayStation, serving as one of the first employees of the newly created Preservation team,” Fredley wrote.
“Maintaining the game was my first professional passion. This was my first foray into the world of software engineering/development operations, and into a world that not many people know about. I was just a beginner at the time, contributing in any way I could regardless of my inexperience. Now, I’m back in it I’m not a beginner once.
“Thank you [global head of QA] Mike Bishop and the team for bringing me aboard this adventure. Let’s go and make sure we don’t forget the history of our industry.”
Fredley’s work for EA Between 2016 and 2019, he “only led the effort to preserve the FIFA franchise, resulting in a complete archive of multiple titles”.
It is not yet clear what his new role will entail, or exactly what the goals of this new “Keep the Game” team will be.
Last month Sony Announced that it will be porting the classic games to PS5 via His new PS Plus Premium subscription.
When it launches for $17.99 / £13.49 per month, subscribers will get benefits including access to 340 games from the original PlayStation, PS2And PS3 And PSP generations.
However, while the majority of these games will be available to download and play on PS5 through emulation, Sony has confirmed that PS3 games will only be playable via cloud streaming.
Sony has recently been criticized for making decisions that were said to be detrimental to the game’s preservation.
Last year, she confirmed it would be PS3, Vita and PSP digital stores closed In the summer of 2021, the news was met with widespread backlash due to the number of digital-only games being no longer available.
