The uniforms for the Citizens of Connecticut have been unveiled

The cherry blossom trees that bloom each spring around Washington, D.C. indicate renewal and endless possibilities, like the start of an entirely new season for Major League Baseball.

The nation’s capital icon is prominently featured on the uniform and hat of the Nike MLB City Connect Nationals 2022 Washington Nationals, unveiled Tuesday.

The uniform will be worn during select games throughout the season and will make his first appearance on the field during the team’s opening weekend of April 9 and April 10 against the Mets.

The shirt features an anthracite base color, a cherry blossom print, and a pink bob at the edges. Cherry blossoms will also be displayed in a variety of ways throughout the season in Nationals Park, including commemorative soda cups and ice cream helmets at concession stands.

“The cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. represent hope and new beginnings, making them the perfect symbol for the Nationals team,” said Mark D. Lerner, Nationals Managing Director. “We are excited to unveil these beautiful uniforms as an embodiment of the hoped-for future for our historic organization as we lead the Cherry Blossoms County Celebration with our friends at Wizards.”

The NBA’s Washington Wizards will join the Nationals in celebrating the county’s cherry blossoms when they don their shooting jersey during the warm-up before Tuesday’s game against the Bulls.

The “WSH” graphic on the front of the shirt reflects the strength and power of the neoclassical architecture found throughout the region in buildings such as the White House, the United States Capitol, and the Lincoln Memorial.

The District of Columbia flag with its three stars and two horizontal stripes is displayed as a patch on the left sleeve and across the uniform stockings. Based on the Washington family’s coat of arms, the presence of the flag on the shirt honors not only America’s first president, but all past, current, and future residents of Washington.

Launched in 2021, the Nike MLB City Connect uniform series explores the character, values, and customs that make each community and its residents unique. There were seven participating clubs last season — the Cubs, D-backs, Dodgers, Giants, Marlins, Red Sox and White Sox — and seven more teams will wear the City Connect uniform this year, starting with the Nationals on that first Saturday of the regular season.

Houston Astros: April 20
Kansas City Royals: April 30
Colorado Rockies: June 4
Los Angeles Angels: June 11
Milwaukee Brewers: June 24
San Diego Padres: July 8

City Connect merchandise will be available exclusively at Team Nationals, MLBShop.com and neweracap.com March 30 through April 4, before coming online at Nike and select retail locations on April 5 and full online and in-store distribution on April 10.

Fans are invited to the launch event Wednesday morning, which will feature world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales delivering City Connect merchandise to the Team Store. They are due to arrive at the central square gates at 10 a.m. ET.
