It’s time to shuck and suck — Osoyoos style.
The fifth annual Osoyoos Oyster festival takes centre stage in the community over the weekend, with premier events kicking off this evening as Spirit Ridge at Nk’Mip hosts International Oyster Night.
“We’ve got the New Zealand Wild Bluff oysters, said Darlene Richard, Marketing Manager at Destination Osoyoos. “They’re very rarely seen in Canada, so we’re very lucky to have them. “
For just $55 a ticket, you can also sample a half dozen other international oysters, enjoy the best in local wines and even take home a signature festival wine glass.
Best of all, there’s still a few tickets available.
“Tickets sales are pretty good,” said Ms. Richard. “If we went by last year’s numbers we would have been sold out. This year we’re going for 250-plus (for the weekend). We would have been smoking if it were just 200.”
The event gets underway at 6 p.m.
If you can’t wait for this evening to get at the oysters, you may want to check out Whiskey and Oysters at the Holiday Inn later this afternoon.
For $50, you can sample a variety of oyster, whiskey pairings and various dishes to taste from the SOL grillroom and lounge.
The fun starts at 4 p.m.
Two other signature events go tomorrow — the Deep Sea Garden Party at Walnut Beach tomorrow afternoon and the Art of the Oyster Pearl Gala at Spirit Ridge tomorrow evening.
Both events, said Ms. Richard, are almost sold out.
“We’ve got about 20 tickets left.”
