Twenty-five South Okanagan women travelled to Northern Spain for a 100-km hike along the Camino pilgrimage. The overseas hike was organized by Deb McCallum at Lakeside Travel as part of the travel agency’s very popular annual Getaway Gals excursion.
The pilgrimage takes travellers to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried.
The group flew to Porto, Portugal, where they explored sights and port wine, then bused to Lugo, in Northern Spain, to begin the 100km walk along the Camino Trail.
After an amazing week, on their own two legs, they reached Santiago de Compostela.
The group then bused to Cascais, Portugal, for four days of relaxation, shopping, touring Lisbon and pool time in the sun.
