Congratulations, Class of 2018!

Osoyoos Secondary School Graduates

When we are told we are sarcastic. I say we are bold. When we are bossy, we are driven and determined to seek what we desire most. When we are rebellious, we push ourselves outside the box.

Valedictorian — Sara Smiley

Hello and welcome to the graduating ceremony for the OSS class of 2018!

We were told that the years we would spend in high school were going to be the best years of our lives. I sincerely hope that this is not true.

We have worked incredibly hard to reach this point, and we should be proud, but this is only the first of many more adventures to come. Now is the time to explore and create new memories and experiences beyond winning the ping-pong tournament or lighting the desks on fire in science class.

I hope that each of my classmates remembers the positive memories we have shared, but can find greater happiness in moving on from Osoyoos Secondary.

It’s time.

I would like to draw attention to the wonderful staff who have made OSS not only a place of education, but somewhere students can find a mentor, a role model, and a friend. I would especially like to thank Mrs.Gilchrist who has built the theatre program from scratch, and who has taught me confidence, trust and most importantly how to belt my heart out to any Broadway song I hear.

She’s the reason the theatre has become my second home and one of the only places I can be as crazy as I want, in fact it’s encouraged. I have had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Gilchrist all the way through high school and she as well as all of the wonderful friends I have made in the program make this school even harder to leave behind.

There are a few staff members who, like us, had to move on from OSS and are not here tonight. Let their presence always be remembered because they will always be a part of OSS to us.

Now it’s no secret that our class has developed quite a reputation over the years. But the reputation which we have built is far from unfavourable — at least it is to me.

When we are told we are sarcastic. I say we are bold. When we are bossy, we are driven and determined to seek what we desire most. When we are rebellious, we push ourselves outside the box.

These are the traits we have been raised to value. We are confident, we are driven and we think highly of each other and the community which has built us.

It is time for us to move on now. We will always remember you OSS, and we know with certainty that you will never forget us.

Congratulations class of 2018!
